GSoC project: ruby-debug

Hi everybody,

I’ve read the list of Ruby on Rails projects and I saw that one of the ideas was about a new (or improved) ruby-debug that would work with Ruby 1.9. Although it’s probably the most difficult idea in the whole list, I find it really interesting and I’d like to help out as much as I can.

I’ve been working with Rails for almost 2 years now, but I came to Rails after learning Ruby (and at that moment I was also working part-time for a local .NET shop) and not the other way around, as most people probably do. And this project would allow me to give something back to the community while I could learn even more about Ruby and its inner workings.

Before applying as a student for ruby-debug, I’d like to have a chat with one of the possible mentors. I have little knowledge about the way ruby-debug works and I’d like to have a more detailed picture of what needs to be done and how I could help. I see that the only person listed as a mentor for ruby-debug is “r” (who I’m assuming is Rocky Bernstein) so if “r” could ping me in any way, I’d be grateful!

Thank you,

Doesn't hurt to hand around the Campfire chat (https:// rails.campfirenow.com/room/211004) to discuss your ideas, either. At least it'll give you a place to wait while r pings you.
