rails gui?

I like the ease of use that ruby on rails provides. But before I switch over completely from ASP.NET, I would like to know what sort of gui's are available for rubyonrails.

I like the asp.net webparts. With webparts, I can divide the website into zones and then put modules into those zones. The user can then edit those modules and move them around. It makes everything very easy for the user and for myself when programming.

Is there any way to do something similar with rubyonrails? Are there any gui's out there for sale or free that I can experiment with?

Thanks, John

John,

Rails is a young framework and is not targeted at the gui audience. There are many good IDE's like Netbeans, but not gui tools like Dreamweaver. If you must deal with people who can only work with the gui type interfaces, my suggestion is that you stay with ASP. You might be able to build a web interface to standard modules that you create using Prototype & Scriptaculous, but basically this means you are building the gui tool yourself. Good luck!

Not quite true

Ruby In Steel Developer is unique in providing a full drag-and-drop design environment for Rails ('The Visual Rails Workbench'). It can also import/export page designs to other editors such as Dreamweaver and handle the translation between full HTML pages and multiple ERb templates. We have lots of information, tutorials and screencasts showing its capabilities - for an overview, take a look here:
