Ruby 1.9?

Anyone know when Ruby 1.9 will be released? Does Rails 2.0 run on it? Mongrel? Cap? I've had a hard time determining the answers through some cursory googling.

Anyone know when Ruby 1.9 will be released?

Matz likes to give a new version of Ruby as a Christmas present, we expect it next Tuesday.

Does Rails 2.0 run on it?

As I understand it, not completely, but one of the core team members is working full time on fixing that. Of course, until Ruby 1.9.0 actually ships and freezes what 1.9 means, it's kind of a moot question.

Mongrel? Cap? I've had a hard time determining the answers through some cursory googling.

Don't know, there's probably some work to be done.

That all said, Ruby 1.8.x will continue to be the ruby platform for production for some months. As I understand what Matz has said, Ruby 1.9 will freeze as far as it's functional specification goes next week, but there's still work to be done to make it fully production quality.

Ruby 1.9.1 will be released for christmas.

I don't know about Rails compatibility, though. We will see that. As
1.9.1 is the first version of Ruby that is feature-complete, it will take some time
before there will be "compatible" software for it. Before the release date, some
features switched back and forth, even last month...
