Why won’t Steel work with the Express version? Seems like you’d have a much wider audience if it did.
I’d love to give it a shot, but don’t have VS2005 either.

After reading, I wonder if you’ve considered gathering donations from the community to raise the $10K so you could distribute freely? I’d wager that, given the size of the Rails community, you wouldn’t have many problems doing so.
