Hi everybody!
I am founding my own internet business and even though it is not on me to code the web application, I set myself the goal to learn Ruby on Rails to better understand what our programmer is doing. I tried to install it yesterday on my Mac (Macbook Pro 10.9.3) and I got a few error messages that I cannot explain. I would very much appreciate your help on that - my programmer is on vacation for 3 weeks, otherwise I would have asked him:-)
That’s what I did:
-
I downloaded Xcode 5 sucessfully
-
I searched for the Terminal, found it and installed the RVM successfully, but it always gave me these messages, which I cannot explain: sed: 1: “#^system_type=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_type=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_name=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_name=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_name_lowercas …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_name_lowercas …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_version=# { s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_version=# { s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_arch=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command sed: 1: “#^system_arch=# { s#^s …”: extra characters at the end of p command

I installed Ruby successfully (ruby 2.0.0p451)
-
I tried to update the gem package but it gave me this message, which I cannot explain: Updating installed gems Updating CFPropertyList ERROR: While executing gem … (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don’t have write permissions for the /Library/Ruby/Gems/2.0.0 directory.
-
I tried to install Rails 3.2.0 with this command: gem install rails --version ‘~> 3.2.0’. Again, I got an error message Fetching: multi_json-1.10.1.gem (100%) ERROR: While executing gem … (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don’t have write permissions for the /Library/Ruby/Gems/2.0.0 directory.
Anyone knows what this means and what I can do to finalize the installation?
Thanks so much! Best, Hanna
