We're looking for a highly reliable rails host where we can easily spread our app across multiple machines for redundancy. Something like EngineYard sounds ideal, but most if not all of the site users will be based in the UK. I'd like to avoid the transatlantic lag if possible... Does anyone know of a european equivalent of the big rails hosts? I'm struggling to find anything except shared servers over here...

I'm based in the UK and have my site at Rails Machine. I've never noticed any lag, either interacting with the subversion repository on my RM box or as a user clicking around my site.
I appreciate the problem you're trying to avoid but it may not be as bad as you think.

We have a number of customers in the UK that are happily using Engine Yard to host their sites. I don't think the lag is as bad these days as you might think. Also eventually we will have a data center in Europe. And we already have a reseller in Germany. Anyway please contact me offlist if you would like to talk some more and I could set you up with a test account so you could see for yourself if the transatlantic lag is too much for you.
