Change the Web Challenge

Hi everyone -

I wanted to let you all know about Social Actions' Change the Web Challenge, a contest for creating new web applications & widgets that promote opportunities to take action all over the web, with cash prizes!

1st place: $5,000 2nd place: $3,000 3rd place: $2,000

Social Actions has created an open API of over 60,000 opportunities to make a difference from 50+ sources including Change.org, Kiva.org, VolunteerMatch, and Idealist.org. It would be awesome if you wanted to submit apps that draw on Social Actions' database and help people connect to ways to take action. Interested?

    * Check out the Developer Resources: Tech Archives - Social Actions     * Join Social Actions Developers Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/social-actions-dev     * Check out apps already submitted: http://netsquared.org/projectgallery/changetheweb     * More info: http://netsquared.org/changetheweb

I hope you'll join us and whip up apps that help change the world. Submissions close April 3rd, so get hackin' and we look forward to seeing your entries!

Hey everyone, Wanted to build on Emily's announcement about the Change the Web deadline:

** What do you think about a RoR plugin, where any ROR powered website could easily add ways to take action to their site? **

Eric Cooper built a similar plugin for WordPress and it's been tremendously successful, 2,000+ downloads! (Related Ways to Take Action – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org)

While not a judge, I think Ruby modules that mashed up Social Actions API (Tech Archives - Social Actions) would make for great submissions (and could have a big impact!)

You can find out more here:

I hope there's enough time to mash up modules in the last stretch! - Submissions close Friday 3pm PT!

Looking forward to your submissions!

Best,

Joe
