We have very good experience with calendar_dateselect (http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/calendardateselect). This script doesn't pollute the view with extra divs and hackery, nor does it use rails engines just for the sake of it.

Unobtrustive Javascript Data Picker might also be a good choice (http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/unobtrusive_javascript_date_picker). Same applies to the above, with the addition it's unobtrusive. You might have to rebind the events if you want to use the calendar with ajax calls.
