I'll look in to it. I would consider it a regression to not include this functionality though.

If you could port from 3-0-stable to 3-1-stable, I would really appreciate it. Otherwise, I will port it when I have time.

There's a commit in https://github.com/rails/rails/pull/1556 that got merged in to master and 3-0-stable already. Please check and see if that's what you proposed.
