Explain a little more what happens (or doesn't happen) when you click on a link; it could be that you simply don't have the public/ folder symlinked into your webroot or something else simple.
Apache can run Rails over FastCGI or (egh...) CGI; there's no need to proxy to Mongrel if you don't have to.
