Certification and Training Courses

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been out of the mix lately and haven't had time to post. I've been working an infrastructure contract position which just now ended so I'm able to get back into Rails development.

I'm finding that locally around the Boston area that the only jobs available seem to be development rather than infrastructure related. I'm enjoying rails immensely and finished my first production site at the start of the college season:

I'm trying to find out what I need to do to get into a rails position. I have one rails website, approx. 5 months rails experience now, and another 6 to 8 months ruby experience. I learn very fast and practice as much of the core best practices where rails is concerned, minus some SEO bad habits.

Here are my follow-up questions:

1. Which Ruby certification(s)should I concentrate on? 2. Which Rails certification(s) should I concentrate on? 3. Are there any local conferences or meet-and-greet areas for rails near the Boston area?

I'm an IT Windows System Admin with over 16 years of infrastructure experience who has been programming and web developing on the side now for approx. 7 years. I've never had a job where I performed strict developmental duties though so I'm trying to find out how I can get my feet in the door.

Thanks a lot to any and all who reply.

You mean there are such things?

Seriously, I don't think it's worth wasting your time and money. In the Rails community -- as in many open-source development communities -- no one seems particularly concerned about certifications.

I'll let someone from Boston answer that...

Yes, and your MCSE is showing!

Best,
