ANN: Raptor, a new Ruby web server, ~4x faster than Unicorn, ~2x faster than Puma, Torquebox

Hi fellow Rails users. We’re the authors of Raptor, a new Ruby web server that’s up to 4x faster than Unicorn, and up to 2x faster than Puma/Torquebox. It has taken us a lot of blood, sweat and tears to write, and we’re wrapping up for a release in the near future. You can learn more about Raptor at http://www.rubyraptor.org/

Do you realise that that statement means that under no circumstances will it be more that 4x times faster, may never be 4x faster and may be much slower? It is like saying up to 50% off in a sale. If you are lucky you may find something that much off but most items will reduced by much less.

Some meaningful statistics would be more worthwhile.

4x faster than Unicorn is the best case that we have found. Of course it also depends on the application, but this 4x faster best case is *possible*. If we have not observed this best case then we would not advertise with "up to 4x".

We have also gone into great lengths to ensure that performance will, in the worst case, be similar to Unicorn/Puma. But you don't have to take our word for it. Fabio Akita - a prominent Brazilliant Ruby blogger - has reviewed Raptor: The New Kid on the Block for Ruby Servers: Raptor! | AkitaOnRails.com. I quote: "This could mean that at the best case scenario, you could get almost 4 times the throughput from your application, and in the worst case scenario, you're still getting similar throughputs."
