Translate changes to schema.rb to SQL updates

I have taken over a Rails project supporting multiple customers running various release versions. Modifications to the schema are frequent. New to Rails, I have discovered some commands that will inspect the database and update our schema.rb. Nice. Now I need something to compare those changes to production and generate a migrate file reflecting them. Is that possible?

Will soon be adding a feature to The Brick that saves a “snapshot” of the schema in YAML. Then older schemas can be compared against how the schema looks today, noting any tables or columns that have been added / removed. With that it would be pretty easy to auto-create migration files that implement those changes.

Stay tuned … currently about a week away from releasing this update, and I’ll post again here when it’s in the bag.
