gmail is good because the interface is ajaxed so the page updates without refresh. Google groups on the other hand does not behave in similar way. Refresh is necessary. It would be good if Google can implement auto update for groups.

It would. But in Google Groups one can't even define a signature. Go figure. Google is often reclutant to include standard and highly requested features (how long did it take them to add a delete button to gmail!?).
